Wow, I am hardly ever surprised by what does on between the covers of a comic book, let alone anything anymore, but I have to say that Young Liars did that in spades. A story that seems to be about an aimless pack of kids in New York that morphs into something completely different.
I really want to ruin to story for everyone, but I don't think that would make me many friends.
I'm coming slowly to the conclusion that writer/artists have a hell of a lot more freedom when they are creating - from layout, to character, to putting down dialogue, and I'm jealous. I was looking at Will Eisner's book on dynamic anatomy yesterday...hmm?
